The game's plot unfolds in a fictional version of history, inspired by real events, and recounts the age-old struggle between the Assassins who fight to preserve peace and free will, and the Templars who aspire to peace through control. The framing story takes place in the 21st century and follows Desmond Miles who relives the genetic memories from his ancestor, Ezio Auditore da Firenze in order to unravel the mysteries left by an ancient civilization, the First Civilization, in the hope of ending the conflict between Assassins and Templars. The main story unfolds in Italy, at the height of the Renaissance, from 1476 to 1499, and follows the journey of Ezio, now an Assassin, on his quest for revenge against those responsible for the deaths of his father and brothers. Gameplay revolves around the use of Ezio's skills in combat, stealth, and in parkour to defeat enemies and explore the environment. The game offers a vast open world including several Italian cities, Florence , Venice , Monteriggioni , San Gimignano And Forlì , all faithfully recreated to fit into the historical setting of the game.
