THE DOG Island is an adventure game wherein the player controls a dog in exploring and navigating through different environments while completing tasks. The player can walk, run, crawl, and bark, the last of which is used as defense against the hostile enemies populating the area. In the game, several types of enemies are found, including snakes, gorillas, bears, and bats, all of which, except for bats, are able to be stunned by barking behind them; holding the button used to bark eventually produces a howl, which stuns the enemy indefinitely until the player exits the area. Failure to contain an enemy will cause them to attack the player, depleting their HP or causing a poisonous status, which depletes HP over time, or shock, which slows movement. The player starts out with 3 HP, which gets upgraded up to 8 at certain points in the game; losing them all forces the player to start over from the last save point.
THE DOG Island est un jeu d'aventure dans lequel le joueur contrôle un chien explorant et parcourant différents environnements tout en accomplissant des tâches. Il peut marcher, courir, ramper et aboyer, ce dernier servant de défense contre les ennemis hostiles qui peuplent la zone. Le jeu présente plusieurs types d'ennemis, dont des serpents, des gorilles, des ours et des chauves-souris. Tous, à l'exception des chauves-souris, peuvent être étourdis en aboyant derrière eux. Maintenir le bouton d'aboiement enfoncé produit un hurlement qui étourdit l'ennemi indéfiniment jusqu'à ce que le joueur quitte la zone. Si un ennemi ne parvient pas à le contenir, il attaquera le joueur, réduisant ses PV ou provoquant un état toxique (qui les réduit progressivement) ou un état de choc (qui ralentit les déplacements). Le joueur commence avec 3 PV, qui augmentent jusqu'à 8 à certains moments de la partie ; les perdre tous oblige à recommencer depuis le dernier point de sauvegarde.
